Grip on costs of the social domain

Municipality of Hellendoorn

The municipality of Hellendoorn is a municipality in the province of Overijssel and is located on the border of Salland and Twente, near Almelo. On 1 January 2019, the municipality had 35.808 inhabitants. Like other municipalities in the Netherlands, this municipality has acquired an increasingly extensive package of responsibilities in recent years, such as the decentralisations of the central government to the municipalities of the Wmo and Youth Act, which involve substantial cash flows.

The municipality also has to deal with increasingly higher expectations of citizens, politicians and social partners. This means that this municipality had to start looking at their organization in new, innovative ways. Data plays an important role in this.

A new vision on management information

Ronald Slender, project manager at the Municipality of Hellendoorn, says: “Anyone who uses the available data gains new and better insights and makes smarter decisions. With that mission, I started working for this municipality in 2018, after having worked for years on analyses and reporting at the Deventer Hospital and the Municipality of Almelo. One of my assignments involved developing a new vision on management information, with the aim of achieving a more efficient organization and opting for future-proof tooling."

Municipality-wide rollout of Qlik Sense

Ronald Slender, Project Manager, Municipality of Hellendoorn
“The outside world is changing. Legislation and regulations are changing. Our range of tasks as a municipality is changing. You cannot manage the operation if all the data disappears into a large black box from which only IT people can extract a report with great difficulty. That is why we have chosen to further roll out Qlik Sense within the organization. For example, in the coming months we will develop a municipality-wide dashboard with information about finances, personnel and our case system.

This allows us to zoom in on financial matters such as budget versus realization and improve our service provision, for example by analyzing the average time before someone is called back by a customer manager. I am proud of what we have achieved so far and I am certain that as a municipality we are better prepared for the future with Qlik Sense."
