As a medium-sized hospital, Deventer Ziekenhuis plays an important role in the Salland region. In the hospital, fast access, quality, safety, trust and personal attention are central. About 2500 people work there. The hospital has 267 beds in the clinic, 73 beds for day treatment and 12 beds in Intensive Care (IC).
The right information, at the right time, with the right stakeholders
The hospital works with software from AFAS Profit, HIX, MedEye and Vidaví, among others. In other words, a wide variety of information sources about FTE deployment, production, protocols and finance. It is quite a challenge for the Finance, Control & Information (FC&I) department to transform this data into usable management information. Mark Klein Koerkamp, responsible for the FC&I department: “When I came here three years ago, I concluded that the management information we provided was on the lean side.
Qlik Sense is spreading like an oil slick across the organization
“Our goal is to replace all Excel reports with Qlik Sense, resulting in a single source of truth for the entire hospital.”
On the one hand, I saw a team that was extremely proud of their recent achievement, unlocking the data with a data warehouse. On the other hand, I saw that there was little communication with our internal customers, and they didn't really know what we were doing. This made me decide that timely delivery of relevant management information to the right stakeholders would be one of my first priorities in my new position.”
To provide this management information, Mark Klein Koerkamp opted for a structured approach. Digital consultancy Ilionx was asked to analyze the current state of affairs and to write a plan for where the hospital could be in 3 years.
Mark Klein Koerkamp: “Our information, as it appears from the sources in our data warehouse, was excellent. The problem was in the front end. The data could not be made visible to the user in a visual way based on self-service. Flat data in crosstabs simply does not invite further (re)searching.”
